The story is inspired by the late 19th and early 20th-century French aristocracy, centered around a noble family with a tradition of ballet. The family consists of a mother and her daughter, with the mother exerting extreme control over her daughter's life and harboring high expectations for her.
She dreams of her daughter becoming a professional ballet dancer on the grand stage. The mother shows no regard for her daughter's personal feelings or thoughts. She symbolizes blind expectations, forgetting the true emotional connection between parent and child. The young girl, in her attempt to please her mother, can only seek peace in her imagination. Slowly, she loses herself, and her life becomes no different from that of a "puppet".
